What is COVID-19 going to mean for the villages I get to serve with @plantwpurpose? How will communities like Rombo 🇹🇿 or Fonds-Verrettes đź‡đź‡ą be affected?
I’ve been concerned.
I don’t know if you’ve seen the articles talking about the potential devastation this pandemic could bring to these types of places. It doesn’t look good. But these communities aren’t helpless. Last week was kind of a crazy one for me, launching digital campaigns for Earth Day and Arbor Day, 🌎🌲🌍 but the thing we launched that I’m most excited about is our COVID-19 Readiness and Resilience Fund.
What’ll it do?
🎙Help make sure our communities get accurate & accessible information – For marginalized populations, literacy and language can become barriers!
đź—łProvide social distancing consultation to our community groups
⚔️Build partnerships with other nonprofits and local health authorities so we can help in an emergency
🌽Protect our partners against the economic gut-punch from the virus – Recessions often strike the most vulnerable communities in the form of food insecurity
🍠Help our partners with accelerated food production – Many no longer have access to markets and will rely on their ability to grow their own food
💸Market-based support – We had a lot of success in Haiti with cash-for-work programs after the 2010 earthquake
🙏🏽Spiritual support – Don’t we all need this while the world is crazy?
We’re trying to raise $400K for this specific campaign. All this in addition to our ongoing battle against climate change, and I think I can say our mission is more critical than ever. I know times are crazy and not everyone is able to give, but if you are, your help would be extremely valuable.
