The Story of His Name
RHYS // 🇦🇺 // The first International trip I took by myself was to Australia. It was perhaps my first taste in what would become a lifelong love of travel and discovering myself through discovering places. Anyways, the name Rhys was fairly common over there. I met like, four. I kept liking their name for the next 12+ years apparently, and it still reminds me of adventure and independence.
RHYS // 🏺 // I looked it up and apparently the name literally means enthusiast, which is great. That’s my persona, according to the Enneagram and that stems from EN•THEOS, or ‘within God-‘ the true source of my enthusiasm.
RHYS // 🏴 // When you spell it this way, the name has a Welsh origin and can be traced to the warrior-prince Rhys ap Gruffydd. Deanna has some Welsh heritage, and at the time of Gruffydd’s rule, the Welsh people were known for overcoming ridiculous obstacles. If that’s not fitting for our guy, I don’t know what else is. He showed up in our lives in the middle of chaos and overcame such a complicated pregnancy.
MIGUEL // 💟 // I don’t know if there’s anyone I look up to the way I look up to my Aunt Ella- short for Miguela. I could go on and on about her, but she is the most selfless person I know and especially played a big role in my life when my dad passed. She’s 86 now and I’m so thankful she’s had a chance to meet Rhys.
MIGUEL // 💟 // It’s also a Latin/masculine variation on Michelle, Deanna’s sister’s name.
MIGUEL // 🎸 // His birthday also overlaps with Dia de Los Muertos and we do love Coco.
And according to a very different source, his Urban Dictionary definition is maybe the most flattering one I’ve come across: to know Rhys is like being besties with Jesus.
